Formerly an actress and now still a legend on India's silver screen, Jaya Bachchan became a member of parliament in Rajya Sabha under the Samajwadi Party. In 2010, she said that she had all intentions of completing her parliamentary terms, and in 2012, she made that come true when she was re-elected. She is the only woman on this list.

The former actress and her husband, Amitabh Bachchan, owns 494 crore rupees, including 344 crore rupees and 140 crore rupees in movable and immovable assets, respectively. Of this, she owns about a quarter, at 92 crore rupees.

Politician Naveen Jindal is known in India as an industrialist. He is currently one of the members of parliament in the Lok Sabha, representing the Kurukshetra region. He campaigns for issues of women empowerment, education, and health.

Also a businessman as the head of Jindal Steel and Power Limited, he owns assets worth 132 crore rupees.

8. Nama Nageswara Rao

One of the members of India's 15th Lok Sabha, Nama Nageswara Rao has a total of 174 crore rupees as of May 2013. According to estimates, his worth is composed of 142 crore rupees in movable assets and 32 crore rupees in immovable assets.

He is currently the leader of the Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party. He ran in 2009 for the Lok Sabha, with about 1.73 billion rupees. He was then considered to be the richest of that year's candidates for a government position.

7. Anil H. Lad

Politician Anil Lad is currently the owner of 179 crore rupees, as declared in his government papers. That figure is composed of 113 crore rupees and 66 crore rupees in movable and immovable assets, respectively. He was recently accused of being involved in illegal mining, but he has denied the allegations.

6. Satyanarayana Chowdary

Indian politician and businessman Satyanarayana Chowdary is the principal founder and chairman of Sujana Group of Companies. As of May 2013, his assets amount to 190 crore rupees, including 178 crore rupees in movable assets and an additional 12 crore rupees for immovable assets.

Currently a member of parliament in the Rajya Sabha as the representative of his native Andhra Pradesh, under the Telugu Desam Party. He won the seat in 2010 when he ran unopposed. He supports many advocacies in politics, foremost of which are more intensive education in higher technical and vocational training, human development, and basic social services such as social welfare and health services.

The awesomely named Takam Tagar runs for government positions under the wing of the People's Party of Aruchanal Pradesh. Recently, he declared in papers submitted to the document that he is worth 209 crore rupees, including movable assets valued at 174 crore rupees and another 35 crore rupees worth of immovable assets.

4. Abhishek Singhvi

Indian National Congress party member Abhishek Singhvi is now a member of parliament in the Rajya Sabha for the region of Rajasthan. He also used to act as his party's spokesperson. In 2012, he was accused of having a sex tape with a female lawyer, but he strongly denies that such a tape exists.

According to data from his declaration of assets, he is worth 226 crore rupees. His movable assets are worth 226 crore rupees and his immovable assets are valued at 51 crore rupees.

3. Anand Singh

Representing the Vijaynagara of the Bellary district, Anand Singh owns 239 crore rupees according to public documents declaring his assets. He serves as India's Tourism Secretary. He also has stakes in a mining company.

2. Subbarami Reddy

Subbarami Reddy takes the second spot on the list of richest Indian politicians. He is a member of parliament representing Andhra Pradesh in Rajya Sabha. He is a prominent industrialist, philanthropist and a politician of the Congress party. He has assets worth  258 crore, immovable assets worth  51 crore and movable assets worth  207 crore.

1. Jaganmohan Reddy

Jaganmohen Reddy used to be the Indian National Congress leader. As of May 2013, he is serving as a member or Parliament for the Kadapa region under the parliament of India. He has accumulated about 446 crore rupees. That translates to 407 crore rupees and 39 crore rupees in movable and immovable assets, respectively.

Some of that wealth, however, might be channelled to the government or some other entity if the charges against him for corruption and for embezzlement is proven true in court.  However, he maintains that his wealth—which he owns jointly with his wife—came from legal sources, from his companies Bharathi Cements, Sandur Power Compant.
