Johnstown, PA – The Johnstown Tomahawks community is in mourning as they bid farewell to a beloved member and friend, Mark Kresak, the head photographer, and game operations staff. Mark, a resident of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, passed away today after a courageous week-long battle, following a massive heart attack last Sunday, as confirmed by his wife, Jen Lichty Kresak.
Mark Kresak led a remarkable life, leaving behind a legacy that words cannot fully capture. His seven seasons with the Tomahawks were marked by capturing some of the organization’s greatest moments, creating a visual chronicle of the team’s history.
In a statement, the Johnstown Tomahawks family shared the heavy-hearted news of Mark’s passing, expressing deep sorrow for the loss of a beloved member and close friend. Mark’s impact extended beyond photography, as he actively engaged in supporting Tomahawks games and enthusiastically cheered for the Westmont teams at the Cambria County War Memorial.
Mark’s involvement in youth hockey, starting when his son was just four years old, reflected his belief in instilling valuable character traits through the sport. His passion for capturing moments through photography and his unwavering support for the teams made him a fixture at the Cambria County War Memorial.

We are proud to say that one of his last acts on Earth was becoming an organ donor for others who are also fighting for their lives. We will be celebrating his life at his favorite restaurant , Rizzo’s of Windber, on Saturday, November 18th from 12:00-3:30. With Mark in mind, we are asking everyone to wear their favorite sports jersey and please dress casually. He hated to dress up!
